Havasu Falls drops 98 feet into a beautiful blue-green pool of water (Havasu means "blue-green water"). I recently made the ten mile hike down into Havasu Canyon (see my blog post). Binary Moonrise
Binary Moonrise
oil on canvas, 16” x 20”
Binary Moon is a nod to both Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Brinda imagined a waterfall flowing into a deep canyon through the fingers of ancient hands either turned to stone or carved from stone. When the fellowship sails past the Gates of Argonath, the two giant statues of former rulers of Gondor, she is always filled with wonder. The two moons is reminiscent of the scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, when there are two suns setting on Tatooine. Brinda has always loved that scene and imagined what it would be like to look up and see two suns or moons in the sky.

My goal for this painting was to capture the peaceful essence of hiking in Buckskin Gulch, a slot canyon in southern Utah. Sunlight barely reaches the ground in places but illuminates the walls revealing shadowy Cabernet reds, warm yellows, scorching oranges and swirling patterns.
